Actaea Integrated Diploma Course
Our main program is a 200-hour in-person and on-line Diploma Course in the professional practice and business of Herbal Medicine and Clinical Aromatherapy. The hands-on learning experience of our 9-day Summer School in Aug 2025 provides a good foundation for our 'Sunday School' series of 35 three-hour Zoom webinars, starting in Sept 2025. Enrollment comes with one-to-one mentorship to help guide you in achieving your vision and goals as an Herbalist and/or Aromatherapist.

Actaea 'Summer School' Experience
Our main in-person learning experience is an exciting 9-day retreat at the gorgeous Bark Eater Inn, nestled in the Adirondack Mts of New York State. The live intensive covers the essentials of Herbalism and Aromatherapy — especially those topics best covered in person... working directly with medicinal plants, identifying, cultivating and processing herbs as well as learning hands-on techniques such as Herbal & Aromatic First Aid, and tongue & pulse diagnosis.

'Sunday School' webinar series
Our main online offering is a series of 35 three-hour live and lively webinars from Sept 2025 to June 2026. Our Sunday School webinar series is an advanced program of study in the practical, scientific and energetic dimensions of Herbal Medicine and Aromatherapy, including the cultivation, medicine-making, and clinical application of 200 medicinal and aromatic herbs, together with an overview of the body systems, TCM energetic diagnosis, and living in reciprocity with the land.
Meet the Co-Directors...
AC brings to the Institute her experience as an Herbalist, herb farmer, product-maker, educator and podcaster who has been growing herbs since 2012. From her herb farm in central New York State, on the traditional lands of the Oneida people, she grows hundreds of varieties of medicinal herbs, fruits, trees and fungi. Under the brand name Traveling Herb Farmer, AC creates small-batch, hand-made herbal remedies including salves, tinctures, teas and more, at TravelingHerbFarmer.com
Gabriel brings to the Institute four decades of experience as a practitioner and teacher of Herbal Medicine, Aromatherapy, and an original approach to bodywork using essential oils, called Aromatic Acupressure. His way of working with medicinal plants has a strong aromatic as well as holistic diagnostic emphasis based on
traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Gabriel combines this with sound understanding of the chemistry and scientific activities of herbs, while his internationally published book, Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit, also reflects his long-standing interest in plant symbolism.

Our Summer School venue!
The venue for our exciting and restorative 9-day learning retreat from August 11-19, 2025 is the breathtaking Bark Eater Inn, nestled in the Adirondack Mountains near Keene Valley, New York.
The Bark Eater Inn is perfect for immersing ourselves in plant medicine close to Nature, in a safe and focused environment where students can study and enjoy the surroundings together with culinary delights prepared by our outstanding chef, Debbie Stauble.

Lovely cozy rooms!
Students have the option of camping on the beautiful grounds of the Bark Eater Inn's extensive Adirondack estate, or booking one of the comfy rooms in the Inn or Sentinel cabin.
